Green deadline approaching Friday in the South Loop
just a few more days to see if you're the greenest of the greens

I was lucky to catch a recent tour of last year's Alliance for a Greener South Loop's First Place Green Award winner--the building (half old cold food storage warehouse and half new glassy buildout on top) at 1530 S. Michigan was the top green for miles around.
The building has a "green team" of residents that oversees everything from light bulbs to recycling--they have cans for everything from ink cartridges to batteries--to bike repair to Salvation Army pickups. That's so your perfectly good end table that you can't stand anymore and won't fit in with your stuff doesn't end up in the trash. If you want to feel like a great big carbon footprint heel, visit that building!
In any case, the contest among green residences and businesses is once again happening in the South loop and Friday is the deadline to apply on behalf of same. Here is information on how to do it. There is well, shall we say, "friendly" competition amongst some buildings in the South Loop. And that is a good thing, thanks to the Alliance. So much better to be competing to see who can cut electricity use and do the most convenient recycling than to be competing over condo prices and non-green luxuries, right?
In any case, do enter your abode or your firm. And good luck! May the best greenie win!
