Great coffee cake at The Scout, of all places

All politics aside

The great coffee cake looked just like this

I finally got in to see the new sports bar at 13th and Wabash that everyone is talking about--The Scout. I had no beer, no nachos, no burger or fries. But I did have good coffee and glorious cake. Made special by the chef that morning. And I got a bunch of handshakes and kisses from a lot of democrats--or their surrogates--who will run for office in March.

Saturday morning, our Second Ward Alderman and Democratic Committeeman Bob Fioretti proved he has a lot of political gravitas. He leads the democrats in the ward as the democratic committeeman--and will seek reelection to that office in March. He had petitions ready at The Scout to get himself on the ballot--and he wanted his supporters to circulate them. He has a heavily populated ward of democratic party voters who will take democratic ballots in March. And people seeking the democratic nomination for judge, water reclamation district commissioner and other offices that don't get much attention were out--or their supporters were--to meet the ward boss and his friends, and get their own petitions signed. It was an old-fashioned political meet and greet for upcoming candidates running in the March Primary. At The Scout. Over coffee cake.

While the petition signing was going on, everyone drank their coffee and ate their cake and hugged and kissed and introduced each other. Some people took petitions from the candidates to get their friends and neighbors to sign, too.

The Scout owner, Chris Bravos, who lives just a hop and a skip in the South Loop and who attended Columbia College and studied PR, was there mingling with the pols, too. He was proud that his chef made the coffee cake special on the spur of the moment that morning. And that it was a hit. So much so, that he brought out carryout containers so people could take home big squares of the cake. I took home two pieces of cake. And a slew of petitions.

As to the other pandered comment. "He (sic Alde Fioretti) has a heavily populated ward of Democratic Party voters". I was there. These are not Democrats, these are Republicans forced to vote (D) because of the Democratic Ward corruption by political lowlife hacks who want to keep the status quo of bad schools, crime, free entitlements, by disenfranchising the educated and tax-paying residents. Otherwise, we would not get our garbage picked up, roads fixed, and schools or parks improved.

Well Bonnie, if you quit being a harpie for the handful of businesses and one or two organizations you primarily name drop, and actually got out to objectively review the restauraunts, businesses. and other quality organizations doing far more than you report, you may actually start to sound like you have lived in the area for more than 15 years, and that you know what you are talking about :). Wouldn\'t want that to happen.
