Reserved for a picture of the actual raccoon, whenever I can snap one

You know that commercial for Sears Optical where a woman who needs glasses welcomes a raccoon who she mistakes for her pet cat into her home?

Well, I haven't welcomed any kitties inside that I've spotted running around my house and garage deck recently. (My resident kitty, Monty, wouldn't like that.) And it's a good thing. Because the silver tabby cat I've been seeing of late turns out to be a smallish raccoon. Haven't been able to get a picture, but if and when I do, I will post it here.

Most of my neighbors freak out when they see raccoons in our alley at Roosevelt and State. But I think they're cute and harmless and they have come to be a very comfortable species around domesticated human beings. I don't believe in traps, trappers or post-trappings. Although, I have explained, there is more and more wildlife running free around my very urban corner corner at Roosevelt and State--coyotes, foxes, possum--and it's a little eerie. And it keeps me a little leerie.

I've seen raccoons in the neighborhood before. I've spotted them running around on the top of detached garages on the north side of Roosevelt. And one night one walked all the way down Park Terrace next to my daughter Molly and I. Like it wanted to be our pet.

I have no objection to your calling my post (or any other post) nonsense.

Seems you have a view. OK, I'll take your point and say that both are fair, so you will not object by to my saying the post is nonsense.

I have no view on this, but the fact that Bonnie has been around for years is irrelevant and it is not disrespectful to ask for better coverage of the South Loop and tell a columnist you think his or her column is inane.

If you don\'t like it, don\'t read it! Your comment is inane. Bonnie has been around for years. Show some respect.

The South Loop needs a blogger like Amy Sue Mertens. Her column today on the Hellenic Museum was great. Us South Loopers deserve better than this. There is too much going on in our neighborhood that warrants the type of attention this column can provide, but instead we get fantasies about raccoons with intrinsic desires to be domesticated. All from the corner of Roosevelt and State.
