The Boss
another new show is being filmed in the 'hood

I was hoping to catch the tail end of the opening night of Summer Dance--I really wanted to see how my fellow Chicagoans were going to dance the "Bollywood," which was one of the dances being taught and danced last night--but I got waylaid by a platform risen in Grant Park just north of Roosevelt. One of those collapsable crains (for lack of a better word) was up around the Magdalena Abakanowicz rusted leg scultpures; a cameraman with a camera pointed down into the legs called "Agora" was shooting a scene within them.
I stopped and asked one of the cops hovering along the sidewalk what the heck was going on. "Filming," he said.
"Yeah? Filming what?" I asked. "Filming inside those legs?"
"Yep!" he said. "It's for a new TV show called 'The Boss.' No more 'Chicago Code.' This is the new show around town. And you know what? Mayor Daley is running around in those legs--and that's what they're filming!" He started laughing.
He had the story. That icky stereotype of a show about sleazy Chicago politics, Chicago Code has ended, thank goodness--but will be replaced (for lack of a better word) by a new show about sleazy Chicago politics, The Boss. Kelsey Grammer plays a Chicago mayor who is losing it mentally and, well, I don't know, we have to wait a while to see how this one portrays our fair city. By the way, a recent casting call for show extras asked for "toothless men" and "husky children."
But judging from what appeared to be a long scene of running around within the legs in Grant Park, I'm not holding out much Chicago Hope.
