After all the publicity that the brand new famers market at the Wheeler Mansion, a boutique hotel on South Calumet got of late, I wouldn't have thought of being anywhere else late Wednesday afternoon. Absolutely nowhere other than in the Prairie District. And I'm not going to think about being much of anywhere else late afternoon on Wednesdays until October.
Everyone was there and you could run into neighbors galore. There were petitions going around to save the old Jones
high school building and use it for a neighborhood high school when the new Jones College Prep magnet is done
. The idea is that the millions that would be spent to tear it down would be a lot better spent renovating it. Lots of neighbors were signing.
My friend Anita and I decided we would be coming back for a pot pie and a glass of wine next week. There are going to be merry Wednesdays in the South Loop this summer, I predict.
