South Looper Jan Huttner is getting some new, well-deserved recognition--a story this past week in the Sun-Times explains what she does and how she thinks. And how she does it.

Jan is a prolific award-winning writer and critic. She writes a blog called the Hot Pink Pen and has written a book called Penny's Picks. And she is a long time activist for bettering the plight of women in the film industry, especially as writers and directors. She is also known to don her Jane Addams outfit (literally) and play the role at opportune times--such as the opening and dedication of the Jane Addams sculptures last year at the Women's Park at 18th and Indiana.

But she wasn't always a film critic, book writer, blogger and activist. As the Sun-Times article points out, she was in the corporate world--and worked a stint at Peat Marwick, for goodness' sake. So she's well-rounded and has perspective.

She's also a long time Dearborn Park resident. And a neighbor in close proximity, just on the other side of the Roosevelt Road viaduct. Which I think is the coolest thing of all!
