Cheryl Pocus after a Pilates class at the South Loop FFC

Erstwhile South Looper Cheryl Pocus crosses the street a few times most days, several times each week, from her home in Dearborn Park to go over to the South Loop FCC on State just north of Roosevelt. She is probably the health club's most popular and well-known member. As well she should be. It's her second home.

A few years ago. she set herself up for an enormous weight loss--260 pounds--through nothing but a simple eat less/eat healthy and kick up the physical activity program. No stapling, lap bands, drugs or get-thin-quick schemes. It was will power, determination and learning how to have a healthy lifestyle. She took to a personal workout schedule, taking a number of classes at the gym and committing herself to a combination of aerobics, weight training and Pilates. She even threw in a belly dancing class!

And she did it. The weight came off, and a lithe, firm body replaced what she had.

But there was still a little problem. Like many overweight people, she had some excess skin that was keeping her body from looking...well...darn near perfect. So she decided to take care of that, too. She looked into an operation at Weiss Hospital on the North Side that would remove the unnecessary skin on her arms and legs. Her operation had such good results, and her attitude so positive about it all, that the hospital decided to feature her in a recent cover story in its magazine, LifeSpans.

You can read about the procedure, the doctor and the aftermath here. The story contains details of her quest for a new Cheryl. And an interesting "before" picture.

If you see Cheryl on the street in the South Loop, say hi; I guarantee you will be impressed even with a quick look-see.

I am ever so J! However, I DO NOT believe that a loss of 260 lbs. was got without surgery. No way. What is wonderful is that fitness is now her specialty.
