No gloves in the whole store

So I leave the house a couple of weeks ago--it was still February, mind you--planning to walk about a mile and half to Greektown to meet friends for dinner--and I grab a pair of gloves as I scurry out the door. I zip my coat, and position my scarf on my neck, and my hat on my head as I round the corner from my house on State State and head onto the Roosevelt Road bridge. And then I try to put my gloves on--but realize I have taken with me two very similar black gloves for the same hand. So I have to make a decision: run back to the house--I am about half-way to Clark Street--or just keep going and buy a cheap new pair at Target because I am planning to stop there anyway to buy a Lady Gaga CD for the guy whose birthday we are celebrating at Santorini's.

I decide to just pick up a cheap pair of gloves at Target and save the time.

Except I scour the store--every department I can think of--and I ask the help (several members of the sales staff, in fact)--and it turns out that Target does not sell gloves in February. Too late in the winter season to be bothered. I mean, who could possibly be thinking of gloves in February? When it's freezing and snow showering and slick as can be in downtown Chicago? Especially when there are a million pairs of shorts and a ton of flip-flops to purchase because I guess everyone in Chicago in February has visions of beach volleyball dancing in their head.

Actually, this is retail tradition going way back to when women ordered their clothes months before season to be custom made. But yes, it does seem silly to have bikinis in Feb. and no gloves.
