A Sneak Peek into Jimmy Green's
Opening Its Doors TONIGHT For the Blackhawks Game
05/29/2010 2:47 PM
If you're like most South Loopers, you've been waiting for another
neighborhood spot to open. Your wait is almost over - Jimmy Green's is ready to welcome all of you with open arms. Living literally a stone's throw from the bar, I had the opportunity to walk over, say hello and get some pictures for you fine folks. The crew at Jimmy Green's was literally stuffing menus when I visited a moments ago. They open for tonight's game at 5 pm.
Jimmy Green's officially opens on Friday, June 4, however, like smart business folks, they are opening shop today for the Stanley Cup playoffs. Backed by four people who are familiar with the South Side, the owners of Jimmy Green's built the very building the bar stands in today. This close access to the space provides handy $4 validated parking for future patrons. Yep - $4 parking around the corner. Other features include a robust beer list (80 of them with 16 on tap), 22 screens and a long bar with plenty of seats. Speaking of seats, you can choose from the bar, tables or banquettes. Jeff, one of the owners, mentioned they had a bus - I don't know if he meant a bus to Bears games or White Sox games. Look for those details soon.
Menu wise, expect an eclectic mix of spicy Sicilian shrimp next to standard issue bar fare. Jimmy Green's doesn't have a brunch menu, but they will be open every day at 11 am. The space surprised me. For a sports bar, it had an upscale feel to the decor. The folks at Jimmy Green's mentioned that because of their experience building condos and other places around the South Loop, they had a sense of look and feel for the surrounding places.
As far as who Jimmy Green is - I was told not to worry about it. Perhaps the crew wants to add an element of Chicago style mystique to the name. Either way, I'm looking forward to checking out Jimmy Green's as a patron. See you there!

It looks nice. It's on my list for the World Cup!
