Michael Nagrant, a Chicago Journal alumnus who wrote features, restaurant reviews and the paper’s police blotter from 2005 through 2010, has been named the Chicago Sun-Times’ new dining critic.

The paper announced the change last week; Nagrant had most recently been NewCity’s food writer.

Nagrant’s career with Chicago Journal was varied and rich. He broke into this publication’s pages in 2005 with a voluminous feature that chronicled the West Loop’s roots as Skid Row. For years, he headed to the 1st and 12th District police stations every week to compile the blotter.

He also wrote several fine pieces on food, as well, including an analysis of Chicago’s best corned beef options that concluded — horror of horrors — that Manny’s wasn’t the South Loop’s best option for stacks of the thinly-sliced meat. Vince Vaughn notably read that issue of the paper in The Dilemma.

Congrats, Michael.

For those of us that missed it in 2005, where are the archives where one can read Nagran't old articles?
