The city’s 13th District police station, which covers the north end of the Near West Side and the 2nd Ward, could close under Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s new proposed budget.

Known as the Wood station, it mostly covers West Town and Humboldt Park. According to the Chicago Tribune and the Sun-Times, Emanuel is proposing to put officers that had been on desk duty back on the streets.

Check back to ChicagoJournal.com for more details as they become available.

Oh yes, I long for a time where we will ALL have guns in our pockets. Think of the fun! Someone cut in line ahead of you at the bank? BAM! Pissed off when someone snags a parking spot you want? Blow out his tires! Smart-alec punk gives you the finger? ba--BAM!! Yes, I believe that my fellow Chicagoans will make a sound decision when deciding whether to shoot. Riiiiiiight!

I live relatively close to that station, but looking at the map of how the districts/stations are located: http://gis.chicagopolice.org/pdfs/district_beat.pdf it looks like Districts 11, 12 and 14 are pretty tightly clustered, so closing the 13th might not be a big deal. Or maybe tina is right and this will bring about a zombie apocalypse where we all need to carry guns and torches, type in all caps and use odd grammar.
