Motor Row brewery gets boost from city

Broad Shoulders Brewing, the Motor Row-based business that’s planning to brew and serve beers on South Michigan Avenue, is set to start building its space.
The brewery got its final signoff from the city to start working on its building this week, and on Tuesday, got a nice boost to help start up its business: $628,000 in TIF cash.
Frank Lassandrello, Broad Shoulders’ brewmaster, said the cash will help them move forward.
Ald. Bob Fioretti (2nd), who’s been leading the charge to turn Motor Row into an entertainment district, said he signed off on the grant and hopes it’ll help invigorate the area.
“This becomes a destination point, and hopefully we will see the small hotels being built here, and the right kind of rehabbing being done,” Fioretti said.
However, he doesn’t want everyone to come knocking on his door trying to get TIF funding to develop in Motor Row.
“Does it set a trend? I hope not,” he said. “I have told people who have come to look at the other buildings that it’s going to be costly, and to look at how they’re going to finance it.”
