Trader Joe's to open 'this fall'
Construction moving along
07/20/2011 3:53 PM
After Chicago Journal blogger Bonnie McGrath spotted a bundle of shopping carts through the window of the South Loop’s Trader Joe’s, we decided to give the company a ring to check on the store’s progress.
Alison Mochizuki, a Trader Joe’s spokeswoman, said the store is on track to open this fall. The voicemail she left didn’t specify which month, though.
A December 2010 article in Chicago Journal reported that the store would be 14,000 square feet, and that the company has not requested any TIF money.
The store is also set to include an underground parking garage — one of the things the city asked the store to do was provide more parking.
Trader Joe’s is best known for its low prices on organic foods and wines, as well as its varied selection of store-branded foods.

Intro to Journalism: WhoWhatWhenWhereWhy? Where: from other article: 1147 S. Wabash. (Useful description: "The former Sam's Wines ground floor/basement space.") Also, not to knock TJ's, but the other article describes them as "a Monrovia, CA based chain" then much further down, points out that they are in fact (in a complicated way), fundamentally part of Aldi's.

Ben, thanks for following up with this. So many rumors about Trader Joe's not opening, delaying opening, and so on.
