Lucien Lagrange will retire
07/15/2010 2:42 PM
Crain's is reporting that Lucien Lagrange's architecture firm will file
for Chapter 11 bankruptcy as Langrange himself retires after a long career in Chicago:
One of the city’s most active designers for more than two decades, Mr.
Lagrange, 69, says the firm filed for Chapter 11 protection from
creditors Wednesday as a way to wind up its affairs and prevent him
with being saddled with company debts after he stops working.
The bankruptcy petition is another reminder of how the dramatic downturn in development, particularly condominium towers, has hurt the design industry, which has suffered from layoffs.
While many Lagrange-designed buildings are located on the North Side,
South Loop residents became familiar with Lagrange's style during the
XO debate several years ago.The bankruptcy petition is another reminder of how the dramatic downturn in development, particularly condominium towers, has hurt the design industry, which has suffered from layoffs.
The XO project was hit by a foreclosure suit last fall, and hasn't gotten off the ground.

Larange sued Giles and his development team for breach of contract after being stiffed on XO. Its a shame when a talented guy like him is forced into retirement and Giles will just walk away and look for a new development.
