It’s never good to be without air conditioning in the summer, but it’s even worse when it’s broken on a 102-degree day. But that’s what officers and visitors to the South Loop’s police station were dealing with Thursday afternoon.

An air conditioning unit at the 1st District Police Station, at 18th and State streets in the South Loop, was broken during today’s sweltering heat, leaving officers and anyone else in the building to swelter inside.

Chicago police union spokesman Pat Camden said that a replacement part is being ordered for the air conditioner. One safety complaint was filed with the union on Thursday, he said.

The outage doesn’t affect the whole building: The station’s lockup is still air conditioned.

“Ultimately, this situation needs to be resolved,” said one officer who asked not to be named. “People need to work in there.”

In addition to serving the South Loop, the 1st District covers downtown, stretching north to the Chicago River.

An impressive share, I just given this onto a colleague who was performing a bit analysis on this. And he in truth bought me breakfast due to the fact I found it for him.. smile. So let me reword that: Thnx for the treat! But yeah Thnkx for spending the time to discuss this, I really feel strongly about it and love reading extra on this topic. If achievable, as you become expertise, would you mind updating your weblog with more details? It can be highly valuable for me. Big thumb up for this blog post! Another example on why it does not pay to be cheap or wait when equipment breaks down for good. Because it will always happen at the wrong time. Ask anyone who had a furance broke down during the winter.

The station has had its air conditioner broken for 6 weeks. With the temporary portable air conditioning units that were brought in after the news media got ahold of the story it is still 90 degrees in the lobby.
