Oprah Winfrey's mass economic exodus from the West Loop continued last week, as the flagship Oprah Store closed its doors on Friday.
The shop had been open since 2008 at 37 N. Carpenter St., across from Harpo Studios where Oprah's show filmed for years.
The store dished out goods featured on Oprah's show including her illustrious "favorite things," as well as T-shirts, trinkets and more. Before closing last week, everything in the store (except for items from "Oprah's Closet" was marked down to $1.
In April, store spokesman Don Halcombe told retail news blog Racked Chicago that the shop was closing because it "…had met its goal: to allow 'Oprah Winfrey Show' attendees to 'take home a piece of that experience' and to serve as a destination for fans who were unable to secure show tickets."
The move came in the wake of the announcement that Harpo would lay off as many as 100 people.
