With Buddy Guy's new blues club at 700 S. Wabash up and running, Columbia College has started demolishing the low-slung building at the northwest corner of 8th and Wabash.
A spokeswoman for the club told Chicago Journal earlier this spring Guy first moved into the building in 1989.
Columbia has no immediate plans for the parcel. The school's 2004 campus master plan listed the property as the future site for a student center, however.

Long before this was BG's It was a club called the Blue Star Lounge owned by Tom Mihas. It was a great joint. you could come in the back door at 6:30am and have a beer with your breakfast. Before ATMs you could cash a check there and closing time was 4am ish. In the day it got a lot of traffic from the Hilton and the conventions. Tom would have loved how the South Loop turned out. I doubt he is still alive I think he hightailed it to Greece when he sold the bldg. R.I.P Blue Star Lounge.

Awwwww - loved that place. Funny how buildings take on the character of the people who 'live' there - we will miss it. Well, the new club will be fabulous, & we will be visiting in august. can't wait!

I sure hope Columbia College knows what they're doing. I went there for 2 degrees and lived in the building next to Legends until they kicked out all of the residents to make it into a super-dorm, and now they've failed to renew their lease with the building and instead they tear down a legendary joint like BG's to create "student housing"? WTF. Sounds like one big chaotic mess. And no, I have no intention of giving to their alumni fund. :(
