Five Guys is coming to the South Loop soon, according to the Washington-based burger chain’s website.

As first noted on the South Loop blog Sloopin, the restaurant is coming to a building at 1146 S. Wabash Ave., just north of Roosevelt. The formerly dilapidated building has been in the process of renovation since last summer.

A rumor on EveryBlock.com last August pinpointed Five Guys as the building's tenant, but a Five Guys spokeswoman denied they had any locations planned in the South Loop at the time.

But Sloopin pointed out last week that the address is now listed on Five Guys’ website as a future location.

Five Guys did not return a call requesting comment about when the restaurant might open.

Though I'm glad something is finally going into that building, I'm not impressed with Five Guys at all. Burger Point all the way.

Note to Mike: Its that the case, explain why these franchise businesses are in the west loop whenever I visit the area: Starbucks, 7-Eleven, Walgreens, CVS, McDonalds, Epic Burger, Billy Goat Taven & Gill, Duncan Donuts, Subway, and Giordano\'s Pizza. Like it or not, every neighborhood in the city and suburbs have franchise businesses, along with non-franchise businesses.

Please NOT the West Loop. Although, I don't think I have to worry about that because the West Loop is all about non-franchise businesses. Thank goodness!

How about adding locations in the central part of downtown and the west loop?
