Ald. Robert Fioretti's office has organized a public meeting tonight with representatives from Digital Realty, to talk about generators and the noise they make in the Prairie District.
Digital Realty is a San Fransisco-based company that "acquires, develops, redevelops and manages technology-related real estate," according to its Web site.
The firm has a substantial presence in the South Loop, including data storage centers located at 350 E. Cermak - described as the "premier mission critical datacenter and telecommunications facility in the Midwest" - and 600-780 S. Federal.
An e-mail from the Prairie District Neighborhood Alliance says noise and exhaust are created 24/7 from generators located at 21st and Cullerton.
More from the e-mail:

Digital Realty Trust is a computer server business, with hundreds of tenants that lease space from the building on Calumet (between Cullerton & 21st). Each tenant needs their own HVAC & back up generators to insure their computer servers are secure. This causes havoc on the neighborhood since many residents feel they take too many liberties with exercising the generators. On a good note Digital did put up a large sound barrier to muffle the 24/7 sound coming from their numerous roof top chillers.

Representatives from the company will be on hand at 6:30 p.m. tonight at the National Guard Armory, 1910 S. Calumet.
