2nd Ward candidate drops out
Jim Bosco endorses Federico Sciammarella
02/10/2011 5:52 PM
Two candidates trying to unseat 2nd Ward Ald. Bob Fioretti are teaming up, with one dropping out of the race to support the other.
Jim Bosco, an attorney living on the Near West Side, has dropped out of the race and is throwing his support behind Northern Illinois University professor Federico Sciammarella.
“I realize that I cannot win and this election is too important to be left to chance,” Bosco wrote on his blog. “Say NO to machine politicians, please vote Sciammarella. … We get the elected representatives we deserve. We deserve the best. Only you can make that happen. It’s up to you.”
Bosco has repeatedly railed on fundraising frontrunners Fioretti and Genita Robinson on his blog. Sciammarella raised the third-most funds after Fioretti and Robinson.
Sciammarella said he’s glad to have Bosco’s support as part of the network of support from the community backing he’s amassing.
“Jim kind of made it clear that he thought I was the best candidate for the 2nd Ward,” Sciammarella said. “This kind of goes along with what we’ve talked about all along, which is making sure that we bring all the right people together to make the right decisions as a group.”

I like both Federico Sciammarella and Genita Robinson. Fioretti has been awful as an alderman.

JRD, Mr. Fioretti only stands up against the "connected ruling" class when it serves his best interest. Parking meters anyone? I would like concrete examples of Mr. Fioretti "fighting against" the machine to better fund the parks, schools, and police. To me, I see token PR-worthy examples (his lame condo initiative) that make him look good, but don't yield results. He is a consummate politician and that is not a good thing in my book. He comes across slimy, not sincere.

Your assertion is incorrect. Please recall the race for 2nd Ward alderman just four years ago. Bob Fioretti was not "the machine politician" just as he is not the machine candidate this year. He is a strong, independent voice in the City Council. Rather, another candidate has received the $ support of the Daley Administration. Mr. Fioretti often stands up against the connected ruling class and has fought the machine and its patronage roadblocks to better fund our parks, schools and police.

Indiana - Why would you send your girlfriend alone with anyone? Seems like bad strategy in the relationship department. Genita seems nice. She was out by the Harrison stop one morning.

Ben, you only covered half the story. I saw Mr. Bosco's email; his dropping out is interesting and newsworthy (folks shouldn't vote for him) but the real story is why? Genita Robinson should be forced to answer some of the questions raised by Mr. Bosco's letter. e.g. Why did she raise so little money in the Ward? And why didn't she blow the whistle on her boss while at CPS? Those issues are new too.

Thanks, Mr. Jacoby. You're really still sore about that LSC election aren't you? Shouldn't you let it go instead of posting on every single blog known to human kind? I would rather have Perez than Double-Talking, Close-Talking, Wouldn't-Send-My-Girlfriend-Alone-With-Him Fioretti.

Ben One correction. Perez also raised enough to be obligated to file a disclosure report, he just didn't file it timely.
