According to Fioretti, the groundbreaking will be held at 11 a.m.
Pete's finally closed on the property in late January after repeated delays. At a meeting in June last year, the store’s manager, Charlie Poulikis, said that if they began construction in 2011, they hoped to open their doors by mid-2012.

Let's hope this carries through to opening and successful operation. But there won't be a Green Line stop at Western any time soon. Building a new station costs in the tens to hundreds of millions (plus millions each year to operate it). Plus, the adjacent stops are (relatively) close. There would need to be a huge burst of new residents and employment around the station area to make a new station happen. I would love one to be there too, but it isn't going to happen any time soon.

The Pete's looks like a go!! They've cut down trees and started digging at the site as of Thursday morning. The Green Line stop at Western would be a great idea. Probably won't happen b/c of the Blue Line stop on Western and Van Buren though.

Now that Pete's is finally coming, I hope this can help the alderman and community to get CTA/RTA to put a Green Line stop on Western/Lake.

I am keeping my fingers crossed that this project doesnt up like the proposed aldi at 115th and Michigan. There was a groundbreaking led by ald Beale on 01/2011 for that site and one year later there is still nothing but a big empty lot. I too will believe it when the site is fenced off and filled with heavy construction machinery.

Ground can be broken at a construction site as long as long as the ground isn't frozen to a certain level. The level usually depends on the composition of the soil. This has been a good winter for construction projects.

Normally, building projects don\'t \"break ground\" in February - the ground is usually frozen. But with this year\'s non-winter, maybe that\'s not a problem...

I am so glad that both Target locations (former Carson Pirie Scott and Fanny May Factory) and Costco will be open this year. Because I am sick and tried of waiting on Pete's Fresh Market. As a matter of fact, I being going to the Pete's location on Cermak and Rockwell that used to be a Jewel-Osco store.

I will believe it when I see it. And I plan to be there to see it.
