The city’s first major snowfall is finally upon us, and that means snowplows are out in force.
According to a press release from the city’s streets and sanitation department, all 278 of the city’s snowplows are out scraping the roads for rush hour.
As usual, the city is focusing on main arterial roads first before moving to side streets.
“While all of the snowplows are working to clear the main arterial streets, falling snow and dropping temperatures can reduce visibility and make portions of the roadway slick at points,” Streets and Sanitation Commissioner Tom Byrne said. “Motorists should drive with added caution during their evening commutes.”
This winter, the city has debuted its new “Plow Tracker” site, where you can watch where the city’s plows are in real time, as well as volunteer to clean sidewalks in need of shoveling.
