I'm feeling naked and uncovered
It's that time of year, without foliage
11/14/2009 6:28 PM
I’m feeling exposed. The leaves have come off the trees and
the flowers have died and the vines are like barren wire hugging the house and
deck rails and the garden detritus has been blown away by the gardeners from the
lawn and the sidewalk. All that stuff when it’s lush
and alive gives me a cushion--and a privacy barrier at Roosevelt and
State. Suddenly, the season
betrays bigtime--even if the temperature doesn’t--and I have to remind myself
that the windows are now unobstructed, the deck is now open-air and my whole
corner property is now unprotected. Everyone can see my little
white chandelier in the hall from the bay window that was just days ago gorged
with big green leaves. The little
chotchkes on the back deck--without green fluffy cover--are there for all to
see. I’m feeling nude. That’s it. The house is naked--for at least the
next six months.

Feeling naked is a great feeling. The article notes in most human terms the annual passing of the seasons.
