Who's in for the 7th District race -- for now

The deadline for filing signatures to be on the Feb. 2, 2010 primary ballot for the 7th District Congressional seat was yesterday. Thirteen candidates have tossed their hat in the ring -- one Republican, one Green and 11 Democrats.
Among the latter group:


Much depends what the 7th District incumbent, Congressman Danny Davis, decides to do. Davis has filed for both reelection in the 7th and for president of the Cook County board. Some of the candidates who filed to be on the ballot could still drop out.
Others who filed for the 7th seat include Loop residents Mark Weiman, a Republican, and Joyce Washington, a Democrat, and South Loop resident Clarence Desmond Clemons. Two candidates from Oak Park round out the list.
On the county side of things, South Loop resident Dennis Beninato filed to challenge incumbent Cook County Commissioner Robert Steele (2nd), who is also running for reelection, according to the candidates list posted by Cook County Clerk David Orr.

The Fioretti filing has been rumored for months. I guess he never really wanted to be Alderman and/or is so ambitious that he can't be bothered with some little office like Alderman. That would explain his plethora of broken campaign promises. Now, will his state campaign account chairman, the notoriously anti- community John P. Jacoby, also run this campaign? Time will tell!!!

In addition to Dennis Beninato and Robert B. Steele, other candidates who filed in the Democratic primary for 2nd District Cook County Commissioner are Frank M. Bass, George Blakemore, Erold Elysee, Desiree Grode, and Robert Palmer. This is also going to be quite a crowded and exciting race.

Ascot should pull out of the race whether or not Davis runs. And what difference does it make if Fioretti and Dixon are freshmen Aldermen? If you ask me thats a big plus. Better a freshman than someone who has rubber stamped Daley for years.
