West Loop Target breaks ground Saturday
Store expected to open in July 2012

The West Loop Target store is breaking ground Saturday at the corner of Jackson Boulevard and Aberdeen Street, according to a release from Ald. Bob Fioretti (2nd).
The store is scheduled to open in a year, with its grand opening in July 2012. According a release from Fioretti’s office, it will feature a full grocery section, a pharmacy, a health clinic, a Starbucks and 30 bike racks. According to Fioretti’s release, it will also have a 384-space parking garage at street level beneath the store.
It’ll provide 175 to 225 total jobs, a quarter of which will be full-time positions, he said. Both full and part-time employees will be eligible for benefits.
Target purchased the vacant, nearly four-acre site between Jackson, Van Buren, Aberdeen and an alley, last July for more than $9.3 million. A previous developer’s ambitious plans for hundreds of new condominiums and retail space at the property withered as the economy and housing market began its tumble in 2008.
The store’s design was altered last year from a brick-centric design to a more glass-centric one after protests from community groups.
Fioretti said Target had not requested any tax increment financing, or TIF, subsidies.

I'm very excited about the opening of a new Target Store. I heard will be one of the kind as well as the one located in State St. This store will be opening this fall October 20's.

This store is schedule to be opened this year in October. Target is already taking applications on-line for this location. If you work or live downtown, CityTaget will be open on July 25.

Sam---that is the million dollar question the alderman and the city don't seem to want to answer. If it was a Jewel I'm sure it would have been in by now.

About time. I don't like the location on Roosevelt and Clark. When are they going to start working on the Pete's Fresh Market Store on Madison and Western?
