I always like to plug my friend Virginia Dan's baby--the Pilsen Community Garden Tour--each year. Pilsen is South Loop Oberver's neighboring community to the southwest and I feel it's important to maintain good relations.

So, neighbors, get out there and see the best of the best and the greenest of the green. Pilsen gardens--monarch butterfly sanctuaries to native plantings to vegetable plots--will be on display on Saturday, August 11, from 4 to 6 PM. You can ride your bike around the area; the showcase gardens are quite spread out. But this year, Paseo de Jardines is also offering a bus ride to all the participating sites. The bus leaves at 4 PM from Orozco Elementary's parking lot on 17th, between Damen and Wolcott. The tour begins at the school at 1940 W. 18th.

The gardens will serve beverages and there will be a small reception at the last garden--and a raffle.
