Finally got a good look upstairs
the Trailways Bus Station--a SL gem preserved

One of the most exciting South Loop milestones was preserving the long defunct, and very much landmarkable Trailways Bus Station at Roosevelt and State. It's too bad Sam's came and went, but Potbelly's is doing nicely inside the tastefully renovated first floor. And now there seems to be a business upstairs that will give the building a nice life on the second floor.
I dropped in at the grand opening of Interchange Medical Wellness Center last night. Their get together won out over a number of other competing events at the same time. But I have always wanted to see upstairs. Interchange--and the first thing I would do is change the name; it's way too sickness oriented--is a nice little health and exercise spa that has taken over a good part of the upstairs of the building. It's slick, clean and concrete-laden, with a mat class room, Pilates reformer equipment room, spa rooms for massages, etc. and rooms for chiropractors and other practitioners. They held classes like kettle ball and boxing drills during the party. And a nice array of staff-inspired homemade food (like chicken cubes in couscous) and homemade wine (apparently you can make Pinot Noir at home) was served.
Interchange is joining that group of scaled down health clubs that let you drop in or buy a package of services without joining. There is no membership, in fact. In the meantime, you can spa in a historic surrounding, while peering onto Roosevelt Road below through the big windows.
After the party, I walked from one end of the South Loop to the other to see what was going on at the other events I foresook. I tried looking into the windows at Kroll's at 18th and Michigan to see how the Dog PAC event was going but their blinds do a good job of keeping out the light as well as Stella Dallas wannabes. Also ran past Willie Dixon's Blues Heaven but the Killer Ray Allison concert was over. Going strong, however, was the Glessner House showing of Treasures From the Collection. I was able to ogle some memorabilia of the Glessners from a dinner in honor of the Queen of Romania. And the Punjabi Funk dance at Summer Dance at Harrison and Michigan was also crowded and lively. Very Bollywood!
Then, Instead of joining in at Adler's After Dark at the Planetarium, I came home and revved up my Starry Night software on the computer. Nice crescent moon falling in the west. Both visible from Roosevelt and State and virtually on the Mac.
