The Plan Commission is expected to vote on two university projects in the South Loop and the next phase of the Rockwell Gardens public housing redevelopment at its meeting next Thursday. Here's a brief description of each:

  • Buckingham/Wabash LLC is proposing to build a 37-story student dorm building with 1,221 beds at S. Wabash and E. Van Buren;
  • Roosevelt University is proposing to building a 32-story building containing science and business classrooms, offices and 619 beds;
  • East Lake Management is seeking permission to re-zone the land that once hosted Rockwell Gardens, covering 553 units, and then create a planned development. Plan Commission considered on this matter has been a source of controversy on the Near West Side. A meeting about the proposal scheduled for last night, however, was canceled.
