Howdy to Blogland
Birds do it, bees do it--and even if they don’t, it’s only a matter of time. So I’m going to start doing it. Thanks to the Chicago Journal, who is giving me a spot in cyberspace in which to blog.
I figure I’m spending 16 hours a day online anyway--and sending hundreds of emails during that period, most with some observation or point of view that I just have to tell someone. So why not accept this offer from CJ and expand my daily audience? I will be your South Loop Observer.
All my idols seem to be blogging: Nora Ephron, for instance, blogs on Huffington Post, as does one of my college classmates and friend, Carol Felsenthal, who is a famous biographer of people such as news legends Katherine Graham and S.I. Newhouse and the post-White House Bill Clinton (“Clinton in Exile”).
After 22 years of being a regular columnist somewhere--Naperville City Star, Chicago Tribune, Illinois Bar Journal, Chicago Daily Law Bulletin and CJ (which will continue), as well as being a contributing writer at the Chicago Reader, Chicago Sun-Times and a contributing editor at the old Lake Magazine, and now Shore Magazine, I am making the virtual big leap. After having work included in two anthologies and winning seven major (print) journalism awards, I will enter the new world.
So, friends, here I go….

As a blogger you must be able to have a lot of knowledge. A knowledge that can attract people. - Brenda Lee Reed

Hi Bonnie! I really enjoy your writing and your blog. This keeps me in touch with my old South Loop neighborhood (Michigan & Roosevelt) - it certainly has grown in the last 5 years that I have been away from Chicago! I will make sure to check this often!

Congratulations Bonnie, I've missed being able to read your work since I moved, now I have a place to go and read your fun stories and hear about my second love Chicago. By the way you look good in that tub.

yep--it's a bathtub. it was taken at a friend's xmas party/housewarming in oak park (old neighbors from the south loop) a few months ago. it's a gorgeous tub--and i was just itching to try it out, albeit fully dressed!

Way to go, Bonnie! You write me THE BEST comments on my musings, so I know you'll be a first-rate conveyor of insights and original takes on the news. I will not hire you, however, to take care of any technical difficulties I might have. Neither you nor another smart friend of mine of about the same age can figure out how to post on huffington. I had to post her comment on my last blog. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/carol-felsenthal/oh-my-todd-stroger-an-exe_b_197793.html

I'm glad the Chicago Journal is finally using a really good photo of Bonnie. Is that a bathtub she's sitting in?

Congratulations. Blogging won't get ahywhere until they find a new, more glamorous word for it -- Life Magazine would never have gotten off the ground if they called it Blog.
