The Chicago Housing Authority is seeking permission from U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Affairs to potentially lease out the Major Adams Community Center, a longtime Near West Side institution at 125 N. Hoyne.
And, the agency, may lease or transfer a block of replacement public housing between Lake, Damen, Leavitt and an alley north of Washington street to another operator.
Both property dispositions are included in a list of amendments the housing authority has proposed to the plan that CHA submits each year to HUD. View that document, in PDF form, here.
The housing authority has scheduled a public comment meeting about amendments to its plan for March 22, at the Charles Hayes Center, 4859 S. Wabash.
Chicago Journal published a story about the future of the "Superblock" - as the area between Lake, Damen, Leavitt and the alley is often called - last December.
