Devastating fire in Greektown

A fire ripped through Costas Restaurant in Greektown last night, destroying the
building at the northwest corner of Halsted and Van Buren.
Fire department spokesmen were not immediately available for comment. The Tribune reports a fryer in the restaurant may be the cause of the blaze.
Early Monday morning, Greektown business owners, workers and pedestrians were taking stock of the fire's aftermath. At least two other neighborhood businesses, Greektown Music and the Athens Grocery, were affected by the fire.
"It's very sad," said Steve Odicho, who worked as a valet for the past three years at Costas, as he watched firemen blast his former place of employment with water. "You know how many employees we are losing? Forty people worked in there."
